We love working with our hands, taking the time to get it right, and rallying community around worthwhile causes.
The world is a rich place. Our work as designers, printers, and photographers means that we get to revel in that in a very specific way – looking closely, investigating deeply, and striving all the time to connect in meaningful and impactful ways.
ORIGIN STORY
The exact moment of Feast Studio’s inception is hard to pinpoint. Jess and Ian met on a rooftop in Nepal in 2013, spent a day printing with Deciduous Press (Tasmania, AU) a year later, and by 2016 they were en route to Indianapolis to pick up a 100-year-old Chandler & Price.
They strapped that 1000 lb beauty to a U-Haul trailer, headed to Calgary to set up shop in Jess’ uncle’s garage, and spent the following winter thawing ink with a hairdryer while poring over every recommended letterpress book they could get their hands on.
Things evolved from there, including a move to cSPACE, the addition of a couple more presses, and an expanded service offering.
We are spontaneous, determined, and grateful to all our teachers along the way.
OUR VALUES
Feast Studio is located on Treaty 7 territory – land that is and has been from time immemorial stewarded and cared for by the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Nakoda (Stoney), and Tsuut’ina First Nations. We are listening, learning, and working toward more informed, meaningful allyship in this place.
We strive to create an inclusive, welcoming space that thrives on human connection. Our business is built on the foundation of a strong local economy – one that we’re excited to support and give back to every chance we get.
Managing our ecological footprint is important to us. As often as we can, we use 100% recycled, tree-free paper. Our solvents are naturally derived, and our beloved C&P can be operated in a power outage. We get creative with scraps.
Letterpress has a long history tied to protest movements, community organizing, and public education. In the spirit of reciprocity, we would love to extend this legacy and offer our skills, labour, and materials to advocacy groups and organizations fighting the good fight in our community. If you have a project in mind, please get in touch.
